Percussion

The NPHS VPA percussion program offers a unique opportunity for percussionists to specialize within the music department. Specialized beginning through advanced courses are specifically designed for students to advance their craft by focusing on their preferred percussion instrument or to branch out and developing new skills to augment their primary instrument proficiency. In this program, students gain skills and knowledge to prepare them for a college auditions and professional work. Although no prior percussion experience is required, students who wish to be evaluated for placement into the advanced class should apply and audition for early acceptance into the program.

Percussion students will participate in a special public performance each spring where students showcase their talents and wow audiences through inventive and artistic performance pieces. At NPHS percussion is more than ‘just hitting things with sticks’, students are encouraged to participate in afterschool ensembles, especially the NPHS Indoor Percussion Ensemble. Consistently placing top three in the FFCC championships since 2014, the NPHS Indoor Percussion Ensemble is the premiere competitive musical ensemble at NPHS. As the only school in the State of Florida with two competitive marching percussion groups, we push the boundaries of how it's done in the pageantry arts.
